Ocean's Embrace

Description: A short minute read, that explores the family bonds.

The sea shifts and roils as rain showers a slope facing its expanse. Sauntering slowly clothed in shawl a woman, with her a small infant, climbs the rise. The waves meet the overlook crashing, spraying foam. The woman cries out, "I've done what you've asked, now give me your blessing!" as she drops the child into the depths below. Lightning crashes as a voice thunders, "It is done." Recoiling the woman backs away leaving her child to the will of the sea. The woman quickens her pace down the slope, but slowly she begins to drag her feet. It was as if the weight of the sea was atop her. Her walking slows to a halt. In her pause, the woman's breathing falters as her lungs fill, coughing up brine. Lightning crashes, thunder echoes. The sound slowly recedes into silence. Silence. Silence. All that is heard is the light pelting of rain against skin. She got what she wanted, release. Release.
